can only samba as a guest
Folks,
I finally got Samba up and running, but now it seems that while I can see shares from Windoze, I cannot access them. Access is denied. Both my Windoze and Linux loggons are the same. I have added and enabled myself as a Samba user as well. My name is in the smbpasswd file, though the smbusers file has only guest and root in it. Is that right?
Anyways, when I check my Samba log file, it says:
'Connect to service matt as user nobody'
Nobody is of course the guest account. The log file then goes on to say that pemission is denied to user nobody.
Ideas please?

are you trying to connect as nobody or guest?
Also check to see if you have the following line in your smb.conf file, global section:
Code:
encrypted passwords = yes
if you are using anything above win95a to access the shares, It will send the password encrypted and Samba must be configured to support it.
Any other issues, put in a copy of your smb.conf for reference.

Thanks for the replies!
No, 'nobody' doesn't own anything - it's just a dummy guest account for samba.
I do have the ecrypted option set to yes, and 'testparm' reports that everything is cool in smb.conf
I'm not trying to connect as nobody. My main, non-root user on Linux is 'matt' with password 'matthew' - and that's what I'm logging into Windoze with, so I would assume that that's the username and password being shown to linux when I connect, but that's not the case. Instead I'm only granted access with the guest account, as the log file shows.
I'll post my smb.conf file later when I get home.
In the meantime - any other ideas?

Well.. you say you have encrypted passwords on, and the user Matt exists for both boxes... The only thing I can think of is that you need to make DOUBLE sure you have encrypted SMB passwords setup - you can use the following command to do so: This will prompt you to enter in the password for the user, which will be identical to the hashed p/w you send during a connection from the windoze box. Once you have done this, restart the daemons and try the connection again.
Make sure you have set also in global conf.

A-ha... I had security set at 'share'
Perhaps this is the problem... I'll try when I get home.
Thanks!

Later that day...
Works now! Thanks.
