can not reach samba server from outside, no problem from internal network

Hi guys and goeroes,

I have read many, learning linux,apache,samba,vsftp,ssh..etc from this forum but now i am realy stucked and confused.

My samba server has always been reached from internal aswell external networks.

I have switched 5 months ago to Telfort network ( i am not sure... ) but as far as i know it was no poblem to connect the samba server with windows explorer everywhere.

No i get the only the login screen when connecting from outside the network and when filling in the credentials it just come back with the login screen.

I don't have any problems internal when connecting to these shares and supplying the credentials

Any great suggestions would be more then welcome.

Server:
Ubuntu Linux 8.04.4

Samba:
Samba versie 3.0.28a

Linux Firewall has no rules

portforwarding: i use 445 TCP (This port has always worked !)

I have tried adding the ports 139 tcp and 137/138 udp but no success

Many thanks for troubleshooting with me !!

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

Let me be the first to say that SMB is not secure and would not recommend that the associated ports be open to the public. Many ISPs block smb traffic so Telfort might be filtering it out.

There are other options available depending on your needs.

Ok, i understand, but is it a fact that Telfort block these ports ?? I do come at the login credentials screen so if the ports would be blocked would i not get a connection error ??
I know i can use (s)ftp and sshd ( it is also active ), but windows explorer is simple and common for many windows common users (like my parents :-) )

I do not know but you could ask them. I assume that you haven't changed anything in smb.conf or anything on windows.

If they had blocked this port 445, should i get a login screen to enter the credentials (name and password) ? Most likely i would get an error message that connection can not be established i assume ??!

ps: no i haven't change anything and internal i don't have any problems with the samba connections.
