Can i limit new file names created to 8 characters with samba ?

Is there a way through which i can limit filename to 8 characters ?

Like i have shared my folders to users & they are creating new files... so in this can i limit filename & extension to 8.3 pattern ? So that while i share those very same files to other networks and fat system, they should not provide me any further problem.

Can it be done n specified in samba or is there any way around ?

P.S. Through convmv command i can convert filesnames from one encoding to another one.
man page of convmv.... http://j3e.de/linux/convmv/man/
