can connect but not surf

Hi
like the subject say i can connect thru my ppp connection but i get no respons from pings or apps like netscape. I think the problem is that my linux thinks i wanna use the network for internet.
I tryed to put eth0 down by using ifconfig eth0 down but with no succes.

What could the problem be? and if it is what i think how do i change the defualt internet connection thingy to my ppp modem and not my network?

You will need to cahnge your default route - what does this show:
route -n

Do you get a response from:
ping -c 3 64.179.4.149

Then it is not a routing problem - you just don't have any DNS servers configured.
In /etc/resolv.conf add or change the namserver lines to use the IP addresess of your ISPs DNS servers - ie:
nameserver 212.65.122.21
nameserver 212.65.122.22

Contact your ISP or check their website to find the IP addreses for their DNS servers. If you can't find them then just let us know who you are using.

DNS can be automatic if DHCP is setup right.
