Can browse, Can't ping!

This is a weird one.

I have a colleague with a laptop and sis900 network card. My machine works just fine, his has stopped connecting to the 'net.

He can browse the web via a proxyserver.

He _can't_ ping any machine.

I can, from my machine, arping his and get the correct MAC address of his machine back.

I have tried two IP adresses (DHCP and a static) same problem.

His routing table and DNS settings are the same as mine.

I can't ping him, but I can "arping" him.

Is there a firewall on his machine? It could be blocking pings etc..

Yup! Thanks! That was it. He had a Xandros distrib with a firewall called firestarter.

Problem solved. Thanks again!
