Can Access Sites with root but not user account

HI,
I am using Slackware Linux 9.1. My internet is set up fine (Alcatel USB Speedtouch) and I can access all internet services when I am in root. However, I cannot access most websites in Mozilla Firebird when logged in as my user account. The connection is still active and programs like GAIM work but websites are blocked. As far as I am aware I have not changed any settings in Slackware. How can I fix this?

Many Thanks,

Tom.

No - I can't access the sites with Mozilla Firebird, Konqueror, Opera or Lynx.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Your account doesn't have privileges to go online, but root does. Look for the www entry in /etc/group and add yourself to the end of the line.

Another thing to check is the permissions on /etc/resolv.conf. It should be readable by everyone, if it's not, then you won't have DNS resolution.
