Can't open files from windows share on Suse 10.0

I have a win2003 server hosting files, i can mount the shares and copy files from there, but when i try to open something like mp3 or office documents directly from the program or y double clicking on it, programs say something like don't know how to deal with smb protocol. Is it something i need to install? Seems strange that i can copy files, but not run directly from shares.

I think you've answered your own question - Konqueror can use Samba to access files (as can other file managers I suppose) but other applications, say media players, don't have that capability, so you need to copy the file to a local directory first.

Is this something i just need to deal with, or is there a way for programs to access files directly from samba? I've used linux a few times before, never realized this was an issue.
