Can't get networking to work on RH9 VMWare guest

Hi there,

I have VMware workstation 4 for Windows XP and I installed RH9 into it as a guest OS with no problems at all. My problem is getting the networking side of things to play.

I have 2 desktops and a laptop.

DESKTOP1 has Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on.
DESKTOP2 has Windows XP Pro SP1.
LAPTOP has Windows XP Pro SP1.
USRobotics 9106 wireless ADSL router.

DESKTOP2 has VMWare workstation4 installed with RH9 as a Guest. I called this VM machine DESKTOP2-VM1.

I cant get the RH9 VM machine to see my local network. The router is the DHCP server for the network and is set up as 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side. I can't ping this address. All my windows machines are working fine with the router including the VM host (DESKTOP2). Other VMware machines are working fine too - only they are Windows Guests. This is my first linux one (I'm a Linux newbie, you'll have to forgive me).
When booting RH9, I see this screen:

When booted, I go to network configuration and see this:
http://www.markallison.co.uk/files/rh9-2.jpg

If I click on Activate, this happens:
http://www.markallison.co.uk/files/rh9-3.jpg

So, I click on OK. go to Hardware-->Edit on the adapter and see this:

Does that all look OK? Here's my VMware settings in Windows:

Does anyone know where I should start to get this working? Thanks a lot! I want the VMware machine to get a DHCP lease from the router.

Thanks.
Mark.

Hey there... just saw your problem, and I basically have the same here. Muy guest host (RH9) doesn't seem to want to use the wireless connection, it seems to always want to be actually plugged in...
It's been a while since you original post, wanted to know if you found a solution??? If so could you give me hand?

thx

Having the same problem.
XP Home
VMWare 4.0.5 build 6030
RH9

Install went clean but it's failing when registering 'eth0' on load. Same problem as keymoo above.

Other VMs work fine - Win2K Advanced Server, XP Pro, Win2K Pro

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey again,
still no solution in sight, I guess I'll just install it on another machine or just scrap windows alltogether (no real need for windows, not a gamer).
To add to tanknoles comment, I didn't have any troubles with other win/OS on VMware.

With VirtualPC (eversince it's become a Microsoft product) Linux still had troubles connecting on a network. It was still looking for a physical connecting, by physical I mean connected with a cable. It still ignored my internal wireless card. I'm trying to get this to work on a laptop, I admit I'm kinda new to the whole "laptop" thing, so I don't really know the differences between my machine and a desktop (besides the obvious.. it has batterie, it's portable bla bla bla).

Anyways, any awnser to our questions would be greatly appreciated. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

Cheers!
