Can't get IP from Cablemodem... Therefore, NO INTERNET!!!

I've been having troubles with networking in Ubuntu for the last week. While the systems boots, starting the network interfaces takes a lot... and then claims that net.ipv4.ip-forward caused an invalid argument... it doesnt get the right ip from the cablemodem, although i tried with ifdown and ifup... Neither ping doesnt seem to work fine...

Post the results of dmesg, lspci, lsmod, and ifconfig here. You have to provide the information people need to diagnose your problem. What did you change immediately before the problem started (answer cannot be 'nothing'; be honest)?
