Unhappy Can't get a connection from my LAN

I use Mandrake 9.0 and had my network working but my router died last night so I had to go buy a new one. I set up the new one and WinXP, and OS X.2 can detect it and browse the internet, but MDK cannot. I've tried everything i know of on Mandrake, if someone knows how to get my connection working please post with detailed instructions..

-I'm asuming you purchased a home broadband router right not a linux box router?

-What are you getting for an ipaddress on your machine?

-What happens if you restart the network service?

-can you ping by ip address?

-can you resolve names at all ?

-Have you restarted your machine?

We need a little more details.

Failed LAN connect

M4A1Carbine,

Thought for you from my own experience...

check in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ for draknet* and ifcfg-eth0, and in the two parent directories, especially /etc/host* and /etc/resolv.conf, looking for 192.168.0. in all network-related files -- sometimes this address-range is pre-supposed, depending on what you did in your install. Some modems & routers use 192.168.1.x instead of 192.168.0.x; this will zap your DHCP ability, so therre is something for you to try.

URGENT NOTE: before I modify files, I like to back them up in their original form; two best ways I know are to add ".original" (sometimes shortened to ".orig") to the end of the file-name (e.g.: "cp -dp hosts hosts.original"). The other, and possibly better, way would be to have "/_origs", and the needful directory-chain thereunder, & you can keep a cleaner set of working dirs, and a history of all you have done over there, including adding e.g.: ".v001" &c to the saved versions as you go.
