can't connect to sshd over internet [FIXED]
hi
i'm trying to set up sshd over here so i can work on this machine when i'm at work and stuff.
ssh user@127.0.0.1 works fine
xxxx@ ~ $ ssh -vvv user@`ip`
OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7e 25 Oct 2004
debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0
debug1: Connecting to 67.186.xxx.xxx [67.186.xxx.xxx] port 22.
debug1: connect to address 67.186.xxx.xxx port 22: Connection timed out
ssh: connect to host 67.186.xxx.xxx port 22: Connection timed out
i have a firewall on my router, port 22 is forwarded and connections to port 22 are allowed. does anybody know what's going on and how i fix it??
thanks

Are connections to port 22 allowed on the remote box?

the "remote box" is the server
what i'm doing is: running sshd on my laptop here, trying to connect to my laptop (from same laptop) via my external ip address. instead of
ssh asdf@127.0.0.1 i'm typing ssh asdf@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and it doesn't work
i also tried typing that from an actual remote machine and it times out. i think it's something with my firewall on the router?? port 22 is allowed across the board so this doens't make sense.

ok as i thought the issue was with the router. i restored the factory settings on it and setup a port forward thingy for ssh on 22 and it works great now.

Put
"ssh_connect: needpriv 0"
into Google Linux( http://www.google.com/linux?q=%22ssh...+needpriv+0%22), there are some interesting things there.
Now for some counter Q's:

It works connecting to itself, it doesn't work over the 'Net, did you try it on your LAN?
What is the router?
How sure are you that it is fwd'ing?
Still using Ubuntu?
PS: This is a forum not a chat room, capitalization is appreciated.
