Question can't connect to cable modem at boot

Hi,

I have 2 networked PC's, one running Redhat 7.1 is connected to the internet, and the other, a win95 client shares this connection. The redhat box uses ipchains to implement a masqurading firewall

When the machine boots, it is slow initialising the eth card, and reports a failure on initialising the ADSL connection. after boot it allows me to ping my isp gateway, but not the DNS server or any further into the internet.

To get internet working I have to go into the network configuration, deactivate then re-activate my eth1 card, then re-run my firewall script.

how do I get it to start properly at boot?
