can't change owner of directory
Hithere!
Okay, I've managed to get 3 PC's talking to one another with 3 different OS's (XP, debian (router/firewall/mp3-server) and Gentoo. I can access the net (via debian-router)), play mp3's (via debian-router). I just have one problem left (well, for now!) an that is this:
I have a 40G drive mounted on the debian machine (this is a low spec 166Mhz machine but suffices for it's purpose). What I want is to have a directory on the drive (yes, it's one big 40G partition) that is public and allows users on the network to drop files in or take files out (I want the rest of the drive to be read-only.
The thing is when I create a directory on the 40G drive it belongs to root and chown fails to work. Also the read/write permission stay at 755, even when I do chmod 775 on the damn thing.
Can anyone help?
I've thought of re-partitioning the drive and making a small partition for the public access but I don't want to do that...
