can't browse workgroup (suse 9.3)

Hey everyone
Running SuSe 9.3 and I can't browse the workgroup. I can get online fine. Is there something in samba that i have to enable in order to do file and print sharing.

I'm trying to print off a windows xp machine. I can ping ip address of the machine. Also using a static IP address. DNS numbers are all external, no local internal numbers.

Any idea's

make sure smbd is running.

I don't recall if it's available in 9.3 (but i think it is)
- check it out under services, there should be a samba server/client enable disable.
without smbd running you can't connect to a windows machine

just typing
smbd &
on a console window will kick off the server also.
after that you will have to do something like

//machine_name/shared_directory to see it .
