Can't access Windows XP from Linux
Hi!
I can't seem to access my Microsoft Windows XP Professional (SP2) box from my RedHat Linux 9.0 box. The network IS functioning correctly (I can ping to and from each computer) however, I can't access the Windows XP box's shares from the Linux box. At the moment, SMBD isn't running at startup (even though I selected "Server" install when I installed it - grrr. RedHat!) but even when I execute:
#smbd -D
I still cannot see the Windows XP box at all:
(smb://xpbox in Konqueror)
what am I doing wrong? I don't know but I think that you do NOT need a smb.conf file to access other computers on the network but even so, I have a valid one there (checked with testparm - /etc/samba/smb.conf [#testparm]) but this still doesn't make a difference. I am sure that I am allowing the IP in the hosts allow section but I still don't know what could be wrong.
PLEASE HELP!!!
