can't access win xp from FC4

I'm using FC4, I'm trying to see some shared folders on my win xp box.
The FC$ has picked up the address from my router and allows me access to the net.
in FC$ I tried doing the option places then typed in the name of the system to access as printed, yet I can't see my win xp box.
can someone help me out please.
Thanks

What happens when you ping the XP box by hostname? By IP?
