Can't access my school's LAN

I can't access the schools LAN...
Windows XP doesn't have any problems connecting.

Errorlog:
Sep 15 13:18:31 localhost ifplugd[885]: ETHTOOL_GLINK failed: Operation not supported

I have tried Mandrake's network configuration tool and it worked for my wireless card at home, but doesn't work for the ethernet card.

When I: ifconfig
It shows, eth1 and lo (sometimes eth1:9)
When I: ifconfig -a
I see eth0 but there is no IP or anything like that. everything is 0.

The school never gave me any IP or gateway to access the network (windows gets the info by itself).

the card is an Intel Pro100 VE or something like that and uses the eePRO100 (I think)

When I: modprobe
it seems to work, but still no connection.

I'm wondering if the school network isn't letting me on for some reason because today I saw a flyer that said "If you can't get on the computer you may have a Virus or KaZaA and we block both" well, I don't know if Mandrake is trying to access is trying to access the same ports or something.

I have no idea! BTW im a total N00b.
