Can't access my linux box, help PLEASE!

My linux box can see inside/outside my network, map windows shares, etc.
I have an Apache server running that I can access as http://localhost or by http://<IP>, but I can't see my linux shares/Apache site from any other machine.
I can ping the IP, but that's all
When I try to get to samba shares or ping the hostname through windoze, I get "Network path not found" or unknown host.
Heres my setup:
RH Linux 7.2
samba 2.2.1a-4
Apache 1.3.20-16
TIA

My first guess would be to ask if you are running a firewall on the Linux box which might prevent the other hosts from contacting it. If you're not sure, you might want to check either "ipchains -L input" or "iptables -L INPUT" to see what the default policy or any associated rulesets might be.

You might also want to check to make sure "smbd" (and maybe "nmbd") are running on the Linux box. You can mount shares from other machines without these daemons running, but for other boxes to see you, you need them. Checking the samba config might also shed some light; perhaps you are restricting hosts to a certain set of IPs that doesn't include your other machines?

Are you able to access the web site on the box from another machine via IP? Do you get any response at all from a "http://a.b.c.d/", or any notation in your Apache logs? If not (and if apache is running and the Linux box's IP is "ping"able), I would lean more towards the firewall possibility.

DOH!
It was the ipchains. Killed off the firewall and suddenly I have a web-server/file-server!
I will reset the rules tomorrow for some level of firewall.
Thanks!
