Can't access FTP websites

Hi guys, I just installed SuSE 9.3 Professional and am loving it. However, I have one problem. Whenever I try to access an FTP site, nothing ever shows up. I tried this in Mozilla Firefox as well as in Konqueror. However, if I use the command line program called "ftp," I can access sites. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Please help.

Using FTP from a browser you have to specify the user and account in the URL bar. Its been a while since I've done it. Something like ftp://ftp.domain.com:USER:PASSWORD as I recall but wouldn't swear to it.

REAL admins don't need anything but command line though :-)

However, I think it's a bigger problem than just that. I installed the APT tool ported to RPM based distributions, and I would like to be able to use "apt-get." If I specify ftp sources in the sources.list file, apt can't access the repositories.
