can't access a website
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, shouldn't be too far off I don't think. Details first, I'm behind a router. There are two computers connected to it, both work fine for pretty much everything online but neither can access www.paypal.com. The Windows 2000 machine has a little more luck, it can get there sometimes but it has shocking loading times. Talking in minutes here, the linux one can never access it, just times out.
I used to be able to access it through the same configuration ages ago but I haven't tried to use it for a while now. Any suggestions as stuff I can do to try and get back there? I've got nothing on this, no idea why it wouldn't be working. I don't know if it means anything, but I can't ping or traceroute any domains from this computer. Not sure about the Windows one, I can't try it at the moment. Web browsing on both computers works great, that makes me think it's not a DNS issue but I'm not sure on that. When I try to tracert anything I get as far as the router and then it stops. Nada. I don't know of any other sites that don't work like this. It's also not an issue with SSL as I can access eBay just fine.
Any ideas anyone might have would be appreciated. The reason for asking is I've just bought something off eBay and can't access Paypal to pay for it
Thanks

can't access a website
Hi,
Is it a router and firewall in one unit ?
If so turn off firewall and try then, if it works you know it is something with firewall !! Maybe paypal doesnt just use port 80 (most http requests).
The paypal ip address is 216.113.188.35 (if you ping www.paypal.com it will return an ip address) .. In your web browser type http://216.113.188.35 , if it brings up paypal page it could then suggest its a DNS issue.

I turned off everything in the Security tab of the control panel. Now ping and traceroute works fine but I still can't ping paypal.com or get to it. This time while I was playing in the CP I found a way to ping addressed from the router rather than my computer. It can ping everything fine except paypal.com. Perhaps this is an issue with my ISP rather than my setup? I might even be able to get support from them if I ring them while using the Win2K machine

Hey, could this be the problem? Internode is my ISP and I found this on their site. My IP is 59.x.x.x. I wouldn't have thought a site like Paypal would fall into this category though...

Did you try this ?

Paypal may not reply to pings !!!!!!!

No dice in Firefox, works great in links. Weird. Now lets see if I can't complete an eBay transaction in a CLI web browser
Edit: They have really bad alt text for their images...
Edit #2: Nope, eBay is not compatible with links. Bad URL I'm guessing, it doesn't like the weird characters they use.

Not really part of Brisbane, it's about an hour north, halfway between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast

It's just before the Caboolture/Bribie Island exit, when you get to the two Mobile service stations, one on each side of the highway you've gone about 10 mins too far
