Caching DNS lookups

I am running RH9 behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router connected to my cable modem.

I noticed that, many times, especially after rebooting, my web browsing (using Opera 7.11) waits awfully long at 'Looking up host name www . something . com'.

I never see this problem on my Windows 2000 machine connected to the same router.

Why do DNS lookups take so long on Linux? Is there a way I can run a caching DNS client or something so that it doesnt have to do the lookup every time? Of course, the DNS cache would have to persist across reboots.

Any comments/ideas appreciated. Thanks.
