Cable un-plugged even though it's not

Fedora 19 OS. I am getting cable un-plugged message and it's true, cannot connect to internet. My Netgear router quit working so I started using a TP-Link router. Windows machine didn't have a problem, started working immediately. Fedora machine didn't. I tried a new cable, this had no effect. I haven't opened machine to replace NIC yet but why would this be the issue? Are TP-Link routers Linux unfriendly?

This should not be a problem.
You could go into network-manager and delete eth0 and add it again.
If you are conforatble doing this in the terminal, you can of course do it there

Maybe easier to just remove the NIC, boot up the computer, shutdown, and insert the NIC again.

have you check how the network innterface is configured. it could be that the old dhcp was sending ipv6 and now the older interface is sending ipv4. if the interface is waiting for ipv6, it will ignore ipv4. i would check to see if it is a a dhcp problem by manually setting the ip address within range. if that words then you are having issues dhcp'ing. if not then i would check the firewall to make sure that isnt blocking anything...

Look for lights on nic? Build a loopback nic connector to see if it becomes connected with it? Use ifconfig or ip command to show more details.

Nic is part of motherboard so I installed another nic. No lights, got message 'connecting' but nothing ever happened. Can't begin to understand what's happening. Connecting to internet has always been the easiest thing there is about linux. Never in my 10 years using linux have I encountered this.

Have you moved ports on the TP-Link? Maybe it came with a dead port. No lights on your internal NIC or this new external NIC tells me it's a problem with the cable or the port on the router. You already swapped the cable, so that leaves the router.

You could also try another router or a switch.
