cable internet setup

i am geting comcast cable and i was told that i would have to set it up in windows with the install cd so it can bind the mac address and then after the modem is activated i can plug it into my linux pc

is there a way to set it up without the windows pc

i have never had cable so what are the steps i have to take upon activation to setup my linux box to be able to access the internet through my cable modem

also do i need to setup dhcp ?

its comcast cable and i have a motarola surboard sb5100 if that matters

thanks

hi there

i have sen some cable internet provisers
they provide a authentication tool whcih u need to install on ur system, so that u can log on to their network
have got that for windows???
then u should ask ur ISP for the same for linux
otherwise u have insternet configuration wizard in nredhat
which will help u configure internet on linux for cable
