burning CDs over the LAN

Hi Everybody..

PC1-->Has the CD burner.
PC2-->Has the CD ROM driver.

Is there anyway to copy the CD of PC2 by the CD burner of PC1 directly?
in case of audio and data cd.

Thanks in advance..

audio is data - that doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever

Unfortunately didn't work!

Unfortunately didn't work! :(

I mounted PC2 as a NFS mount-point under PC1
and I used this command(from CD-Writing-HOWTO):

#cdrecord -v dev=0,0,0 speed=2 -isosize /mnt/pc2/dev/hdb

The error message:
cdrecord: No such device or address. Cannot open /mnt/pc2/dev/hdb'.

notes:
*hdb-->The file device of the CD-ROM under PC2.
*PC2 exported as :
/ ip_of_pc1(rw)
*PC2 has exported successfully.
*when issue this command:
#file /mnt/pc2/dev/hdb
the result is:
hdb: block special (3/64)

what's the problem?!
any more ideas guys?

can you see the files you need if you cd to /mnt/pc2/dev/hdb ??

is this a data or audio ??

Dave..

could you tell me how you mount a commercial audio cd ?? It was my understanding.. the cd-rom could tell it was audio.. and piped the "data" to the sound card.. and did some mapping/links so the OS / USER could pick the track to be played. I did try to mount an audio cd. .and had no success. Came back with:

/dev/cdrom: Input/output error

I can data cd's, and play music cd's from this drive fine.

Burn Proof

If your cdwriter doesn't have burn proof technology, I don't think you would be able to successfully write a cd. Networks don't give you a continual data stream unlike copying from a local disk to the cdwriter.
:D

There is a program around...written in Java, I believe, that lets you effectively stream data of any type from one networked source to another networked burner.

Can't remember the exact name, LanBurner or something equally as obvious. Will post as soon as I find out.

Oh, BTW, I have never used this program, so I can't say much on it.

I have that java program. i can mail it to you if you want.
