Building Exim 4.30 problems!

I'm a new user to Exim and am trying to build and configure it for the first time and am having nothing but a huge headache with it so far. Here is what happens:

>>> Creating links to source files...
>>> New Makefile installed
>>> Use "make makefile" if you need to force rebuilding of the makefile

make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/exim-4.30/build-Linux-i386'
/bin/sh ../scripts/Configure-os.h
/bin/sh ../scripts/Configure-os.c
gcc -O /usr/local/BerkeleyDB/include/db_cxx.h -o buildconfig buildconfig.c -lnsl -lcrypt
gcc: compilation of header file requested
make[1]: *** [buildconfig] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/exim-4.30/build-Linux-i386'
make: *** [go] Error 2

I have installed BerkeleyDB 4.2.52 and here is what I have added to the Makefile in Local/:

DBMLIB = -ldb

I am running a fresh install of RH8.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it!
