hey im running fedora core 2 and i have my telewest broadband plugged into the NIC and the get ip by set to DHCP, the firewall is turned off, and when i try 'ifup eth0' it just fails to get the IP every time :\, anyone have any ideas?
cable?
i've seen that with cable, the common practice is to pass the external IP through to the first device, so if you want more than one PC, you should have a router -- if you have one, then the comment under dsl is relevant
dsl?
you have another option now, and that's assigning a static IP. -- which will force youo onto the network, and let you check your device configuration (router/modem)
but you can also play with 'dhcpcd eth0' and see if you can expand your error responses.
normally i would put in more, but i hope that gets you started...
sorry didnt read the post fully, i cant pass it through a router because im setting this box up for the entry to my network, and to use for ip masqurading
well, you need to use a dynamic address, the cable box is going to pass the external IP through to the first device... you probably don't pay for a static IP from telewest, so you need to be able to accept what they give you...
