Question Bridging two ethernet segments over ISDN

I was wondering if it would be possible to link two ethernet segments over an ISDN link. Thank you!

Please elaborate on the question. What is the application? Do you need to route MAC addresses over the line or just connect 2 networks (TCP/IP)? Have you looked at PPTP or L2TP? Do they not support what you need? Please give more detail..

Thanks

Sure. Our company has just expanded to a second office. I would like to extend the network segment to the second office over an ISDN line. Basically, I want to bridge the segments together so all the computers are still on the same subnet.

I like the ethernet bridging support in linux and I was just wondering if this could be accomplished with an ISDN line instead of two ethernet cards.

My setup would be something like this:

Old office <-> Linux <-> ISDN <-> Linux <-> New office

Thanks again!

It sounds like vpn is the best way to go here. I would investigate freeswan. In your map you have

network--> linux --> isdn --> linux --> network

Do you mean..

network--> linux -->isdn -->INET-->isdn-->linux-->network

If the second is a the case you could encrypt the data over the internet with a decent cipher like blowfish or triple des. If you have a dedicated link I would just use pptp over the line then you can use WINS and Netbios for exchange servers and such you really don't need to encrypt the data.

I hope this helps..

No. We have a dedicated link between the offices. I just talked to my ISP and they are going to give me another block of IP addresses, so now I can just set up a router. Thanks for all your help!
