That's masquerading in use. The OP specifically mentioned
Quote:
More detailed: I have a working WiFi on my laptop. I want to bridge the WiFi to the Ethernet port and cable connect it to my smart TV. This worked perfectly when the laptop was running Windows 7 but I'm really trying to get off of Windows. If I simply set the Ethernet connection to "Shared to other computers" in the IP setting it does work with Linux...but only sort of. The Ethernet port gets an IP address of 10.42.0.1 instead of a network 192.168.1.* address. The TV connects and gets 10.42.0.146. That's fine as far as it goes but the TV is not visible on the network. I need the TV to be on the local network to connect the media server from my main computer and to connect the smart phone. So I'm trying to set up a bridge using network manager.
