Booting a live CD Distro Over Network

Hey guys. I wondered if it is possible to boot over a network from an image of a live CD on my server. The idea is to be able to run the a linux distro such as ubuntu on clients which do not have a dvd optical drive. Is this possible? and if so how? I've searched for this but I keep running across pxe and thin clients etc. I'm not so much interested in installing the images in the machines. I would like the users to be able give linux a try without having to install it at first on their machines. Thanks in advance for your input.

Knoppix has a Terminal server. You can boot it on the machine you want to act as the Terminal server. You then have your client machines boot pxe. This doesn't require you to install images anywhere on your network. Just to have a machine that you would boot off of a Knoppix CD. If this is of interest there is an O'Reilly book called Knoppix Hacks that goes over the setup. I've used it and it works very well.
