Question BIND: Reverse query not working

Hi,

I got a bind 9 server with split view. Having issues with reverse lookup for external clients (i.e. requests from internet). The query from outside receives a reply only for those servers that do not have a forward lookup address on my server. I get a 'not found' reply with a referral to top-level caches. However, records that do not correspond to servers in the forward zones do get responses.
The reverse zone for internal clients works as expected with no issues.
Does anyone have a suggestion in which direction I can look?

Server loads zones fine with no messages on syslog.

Thanks!
