BIND in Fedora 2 question

Hi all,

I 'm a new linux user. I just installed Fedora 2 and configure the Bind.

1.What is the purpose of "chroot" folder?

2. What is the difference of files inside the /var/named/chroot and /var/named? Both folders have the same named.ca, named.local.... Which one should i configure?

3. If i enable chroot, which files will use? /var/named/chroot or /var/named?

Thanks!!

Br

u should do the changes in /var/named

chroot is known as "changeroot"
it is used to login into other linux environments from a different linux environment and it is also used to restrict some users to some directories

have a look at
man chroot

regards

If I remeber correctly (I'm now runnign FC3), the FC2 bind rpm configures named to run in a chroot'd environment (see /etc/sysconfig/named). Which means you would need to edit the /var/named/chroot/* config files. If you do not want to run bind in a chroot'd environment, then comment the ROOTDIR variable in /etc/sysconfig/named and then use/edit the files in /var/named.
