I just installed bind-9.2.1-16 on my redhat 9 system

i think that everything went ok because now when i check to see whats installed i get
bind-utils-9.2.1-16
ypbind-1.11-4
bind-9.2.1-16

my question is now im totaly lost as to what all i need to put into my named.conf and what is root.hints these are just the first problems i have ran into and i may come across more the further on i go so any help would be great

Check out webmin, it is a web based admin tool from most Linux services. Also check out this doc http://codingstyle.com/projects/linux-admin/

the howtos helped alot but now i get this error message
couldn't open pid file '/var/run/named/named.pid': Permission denied

Try to open it as root.

Does the directory exist? I've frequently seen this problem on new installs. Good Luck.
