Best supported NIC

I need to add an ehternet nic to my linux server I am building.. what brand and model would you recommend. I am using Mandrake 10. I know Linux has a hard time recognizing certain hardware. I remember I couldn't get it to recognize my winmodem in my laptop.

Intel, 3Com
Either of these brands work using Linux kernel drivers (modules) or if you desire you can download vendor developed binaries from their respective websites. Practically every model card in either of their lineups is supported.

D-Link and Realtek are also well supported, as others have suggested, although I tend to shy away from the 'cheap' NICs.
