best enterprise user management app for linux

Hi,

I run an MS AD network. All my linux boxes are stand alone. I'd like to get a centralized user management infrastructure for linux started. I hear NIS is pretty common but, are there any others? Also, along w/ username and password management what can I use for 'roaming profiles'. So users get the same home directory data, mounted shares, etc when they log in?

Any links, hints, or opinions will be helpful.

Thanks.
