best compression options for ppp on V90 modem

I am using RedHat 9 and am offered a whole bunch of compression options to choose from: VJ TCP/IP, VJ Connection-ID, Address/Control, Protocol Field, BSD and CCP.

I have just spent over an hour trying to figure out which ones will give me the best results for a PPP connection on a V.90 modem, and have found no conclusive information; only one Windows 95 user who claimed that Software Compression (aka CCP) is best used without hardware modem compression. Since Linux offers far more control here, I don't know if that applies so well, but don't envy the idea of testing every possible combination myself.

Does anyone know which are the best options, and whether several should be used conjunctively?

Thanks for any help, Dominic.

I guess this is primarily of interest if your
counterpart (ISP) allows you to choose :)

Otherwise it's a pretty futile thing to
examine.

Tink
