Belkin Wireless G+ Desktop Card (F5D7001) on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Just switched to Ubuntu 10.04. I can see the card under ndiswrapper and install the Windows driver from the original CD that came with the hardware, but the LEDs are not lighting up at all.
Also, wlan0 is shown as Inactive. Not sure what to do. 1) Not sure I should be using ndiswrapper at all, because I would expect by now the kernel should be able to handle this card. 2) But that seems to be the only way I see it at all in the system. Thanks in advance for any/all help. (And yes, the card works was working fine under Windows in the same exact system.) |
I have the Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller
Here's the solution in my Dell PowerEdge 400SC with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS: Follow nickdbliss' instructions, at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=827799 with a few exceptions: 1. May not need to remove b43-fwcutter. I had to, because I had already tried that solution and installed b43-fwcutter. 2. You cannot remove it through the Software Manager or whatever that thing is called. 3. #sudo aptitude remove b43-fwcutter <--this DOES NOT need an internet connection 4. The driver does not need to get downloaded. Just use the one that comes on the installation disk for the wireless card. It's under FILES/DRIVERS/w*2k. The name of the Win2K driver is bcmwl5.inf Note that the b43-fwcutter solution did not work for me: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...Driver/bcm43xx Another link with another possible solution: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-829184.html |
One more link that may help others struggling out there. I feel your pain.

Applications on Ubunutu 10.04 LTS
As for applications (while I'm at it)...I recommend
1) Sound Juicer -- Audio CD Extractor (rip) 2) Exaile Music Player (similar to amarok without all the extra KDE stuff needing to be installed; and better than the Listen player thus far) -- See links below with some issues/fixes I've encountered 3) VLC media player -- awesome all around 4) Chromium browser 5) AcidRip DVD Ripper 6) Movie Player -- I barely/kind of like the interface better than VLC for video Also, I hope some of these links will be helpful to someone out there who is also using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...unting-874163/ http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...mp3-no-874157/ http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...orking-873425/ |
