Belkin router

I have a belkin wireless router. I connect to directly.
Recently it has been very slow looking at web pages even though if I ping google I get good times :-

13 packets transmitted, 13 received, 0% packet loss, time 12003ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 38.446/57.730/81.933/10.981 ms

My house mate uses the router via wireless could she be downloading a lot of stuff which makes it slow?

Obviously, yes. You've only got a certain amount of bandwidth, so if your housemate (and others...you may have neighbors freeloading off your router without you knowing, too), are using it, it'll go slower.

First thing I'd do, would be to shut down wireless, and plug directly into the router. If you're getting good speed then, you'll know it was someone else downloading something. And if it wasn't your housemate...you'll know your router was being used by SOMEONE else. Change your passwords, and make sure your router doesn't use DHCP, but uses static addresses. You and your housemate won't be affected, since you'll both HAVE static addresses that'll hook up automatically.
