basic newbie instructions proxy server setup

hi there --

i want to setup a proxy server on a linux box that i can access from outside networks via authentication (username and pass) a few questions regarding this:

1. What release of linux (devo) is more user friendly and offers a relatively easy to setup proxy server?
2. anyone know of a tutorial for setting up a proxy server for the novice?

Well I can't help you with both your questions, but distro doesn't matter for a proxy server, we use slackware with squid and it works just fine. I would suspect that it would be easier with Redhat or Ubuntu.
