basic networking

Perhaps someone can provide me with some instructions for basic networking. I would really appreciate it.

My girlfriend has a Windows ME box. Her DSL should be up and running the end of this week. I have a RH Linux box and would like to network it in a way that I can also use her DSL connection. No file/printer sharing, just the DSL. I have an Allied Telesyn router/switch with straight thru cables that will be used. I am new to all this networking stuff, and I would appreciate some assistance on how to go about this project.

Thanks,

Dick

Dick,
If you are using router, I guess it's should be fine. Most router will assign a private ip to ur RH Box. I don't think it's will cause any problem.

guanyu is right. If you don't need file/printer sharing, just connect both computers to the router, wich will assing the ips automatically
