I am on a winNT domain at work. I have added my machine to the network via samba. I have mounted one of my network shares, but the other has a space in the path, i.e:
mount -t smbfs -o username=*****,password=*****,domain=***** //server/Personal Folders/thatto /work/personal/
yields:
Invalid share name
Contextually, this command works as I've mounted other shares the same way. I think the space between Personal and Folders is screwing it up. Ive tried hard and soft quotes around the share name. I ve also tried Personal\ Folders. I was thinking a different shell would handle the space better. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys.
first, BruceCadieux, I tried that already.
second, dorian33, the personal folders directory doesn't show even in Net-Neighborhood. But I can map that directory from Win2K. I think that is is hidden on the system. Is there a way to force it to show all, or is this something I should take to the sysadmin?
There are a couple possibilities I guess, you can make sure that the directory "Personal Folders" exists on the system, you can set the options "available" and "browseable" for the share in smb.conf to "=yes".
Sorry, I do not know NT and do not understand the idea of 'hidden' shares (wonderful M$ invention)
you can check if quoting or double-quoting the spaced folder name will help...
When I run smbclient -U username=***** -L //server
as you suggested, the personal Folders directory is not listed, because I do not have the permissions to read it. But I do have the rights to read my subfolder in Personal folders. A hidden share is the ~same as chmod 1777 /directory. All users can only see files they own.
The problem is that I cannot "see" the synatx of the sharename from samba because I do not have the appropiate permissions.
