Exclamation Bandwidth Controlling Device

Hi all,

I want bandwidth controller device in office network, I want to control Internet Bandwidth Usage for client. I have one server which have 2 NICs

OS:- Centos 5.7

Configuration:-

eth0 have Public Ip
eth1 have Internal Ip (192.168.1.100)

&

From eth1 Network cable is connected to Non-Mangeable switch, and from where users are connected to Internet.

On above server, I have configured Squid & Iptables rules. Here I want to control Internet Bandwidth, So that I can give less Internet Speed to those who are unwanted users, who are taking resources of the Internet.

I have tried with Squid delayed pools, but it is not working efficiently, what I was expecting. I want to control each user in my network.

How can I control Internet Bandwidth for Internal user (192.168.1.XX)? Is there any hardware device for Bandwidth Management.?

Please help, I don't have much knowledge on Networking.

Regards,
Amol

Yes.

We use a Fortigate 80C as a router. In our environment each computer is assigned a specific IP address from the Fortigates DHCP server by MAC address.

We can then control bandwidth on a machine by machine basis by implementing a router policy with a Traffic Shaper policy.

For example we allow normal users to share up to 4Mb of bandwidth for web browsing, with managers getting 8Mb.

Thanks for you reply. Also in near future I am planning to configure VPN in this network. What would be cost of this Device? And through this device can we control speed of Internet on users system?

Regards,
Amol Shinde.

We use this device for "fixed" VPNs to certain sites and also to allow remote users to create IPSEC tunnels to access our office servers.

Contact your local Fortigate provider or look it up on the website.

As I explained, you can put traffic shaping on any policy. We don't shape DNS / PING requests but we do shape http/https requests.
