bad ftp speeds from server (slack10.1 + pureftp)

can i do anything to increase download speeds from my ftp server. when downloading files from my home ftp server it tops out at 40k

my isp says i have 768k upload ??

im using slackware 10.1 and pure ftp

any help would be great thx

does anyone else have a home ftp/http server like me...

it could be a hardware issue the server im using isn't the fastest machine (PIII 766mhz, 256mb sdram, 10/100 linksys nic) but its not that bad either
