Bad file naming during copy over NFS shares

Please help me this is a critical problem!!!

I have 2 Linux Mandrake 9.2 pcs connected on a LAN

They have some directories shared using NFS

Copying files from pc A to the NFS shared directory of pc B seemed to work perfectly until I happened to copy some files that contained accented characters like "", "", "" in their names.

What happened is that the files where copied to the destination pc, but the NAMES OF THE FILES HAVE BEEN "MANGLED" (the special characters removed.

So I'm in a sort of deadlock. If I try to open, copy or edit the files I get a "file does not exist anymore" error, both with Konqueror and Bash

And so I can't even delete them!!!

Another big problem is that some of the files were actually moved to the other pc, so if I cannot "recover" them I'll lose them for good.

Please I really need help!!
