Backup using smbclient

The organization I work for has a windows network setup. We have one Linux computer that houses a repository and is used for programming. We have had trouble with the Linux computer crashing on two separate occasions, so we would like to be able to backup everything in the repository to the windows server. We are using Subversion for the repository, so I created a script that will check everything out of the repository and tar it and compress it. This script gets called by the post-commit hook which is called by subversion after a commit is finished. The only part I really don't know how to do is use smbclient to move the file to the windows machine. I can connect from the command line just fine, but I have to provide a password.

Is there a way I can have the script enter the password, but not have the password sitting there in the script file in plain text for anyone to read?

Thanks in advance for any help!
