B44 - Network connection cycles up and down when at high speed

Hello,
First time posting, feel really guilty, cause I always liked to think I could goole almost anything!

Dell Dimension C521 ubuntu 9.04 (linux 2.6.28-15 generic)

dmesg | grep -i b44, return this:
[96354.969967] b44: eth0: powering down PHY
[96355.805099] b44: eth0: Link is down.
[96357.804173] b44: eth0: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex.
[96357.804179] b44: eth0: Flow control is off for TX and off for RX.

This keeps happening when ever I am transfering data at high speed.
At the time of disconnect the system monitor shows a spike over the Gib/s in transfer, refer to screen shots.
Mostly on local, but sometimes over internet, i.e. http downloads or torrents.
Doesn't happen windows box or mac box, with same traffic load.

lspci reports this for ethernet:
04:07.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)

Any help would be great.

Thank you,
Derry

P.S. This is really freaking me out, there is no consistency in the problem at all! If I was in windows I'd be running every viral scanner there is!

You are right - you can google nearly anything.

Have you seen this?

Seems like a driver issue.
