Average DNS update time?

Does anyone know the average time a caching DNS takes to update itself? I changed the port my webserver listens on, but when I'm at work, I still get directed to the old port.
I'm using zoneedit, and they say it's a matter of minutes, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the DNS LSU (where I work) uses. I could ask LSU, but I'm sure an answer would be at least a week away.

It depends on what the zone file has it set to.

What ZoneEdit is saying is that your entry will be changed on *their* servers within minutes, and you're probably quite correct that it's a closer DNS to you that's caching the entry.

Only the DNS admin will know what they've set it for, but typically an hour is normal.

Yeah, I thought an hour was normal also, but it's been a few days now... Maybe I'll break down and email zoneedit.
