Automatic script for shutting down interface

Hi

I have a redhat system. It has got one nic and a modem connected to it.

I would like to know if I dial through the modem and when I get connected to the internet, the nic should automatically get stopped or disabled.

Is there any way to stop the nic automatically everytime when the ppp interface gets-up.

Regards,
