authenticating windows domain users using winbind

I have winbind setup and managed to get windows domain user accounts to login using the text console but when i try to startx, i get an error message saying somthing about i don't have permission. so i tried to login from the gui and it tells me i have the wrong user account and or password. Does anyone know how to configure this?

LINUX integration with W2K AD

Hi all,

I'm looking to authenticate users from a W2K Native Mode AD domain on RedHat servers. I think that you can do this using winbind and Samba but there are no great HOWTOs. . .

Is there any way to integrate RedHat Linux boxes into a Windows domain? We are implimenting some major applictions on these Linux servers and we want to be able to pull Auth and Admin privledges. . . Basically the corp has decided that AD is the repository of userid's.

So can we set up Linux to use W2K AD?

Your info would be greatly appriciated.

Regards,
Ian

Hello, i am also trying that as of now.
We also encountered the same problem. In our case we are using Gnome Display Manager. you have to edit /etc/pam.d/gnome (if you are using GDM) so that it can authenticate users through pam_winbind.

If you are using KDE, i think there is also another file for KDE under pam.d. you have to edit it to use winbind.

hope this helps.

good luck :)
