atheros ar8131

Greetings,
I have just purchaed an Acer 5635Z notebook. The note book came installed with win7 home premium 64 and a t4300 intel dual core cpu with 4gb of ram. After installing Suse 11.2 which recognises the lan controller as an atheros ar8131; I can not find a suitable rpm to load using yast.

Can anyone point me to an rpm that works for this controller?

Thanks for looking.

rjwilmsi 12-31-2009 03:48 PM

I don't really understand your question, because if the opensuse installer detects your LAN card correctly, it should mean that it already has a driver for it.

violetwire 01-01-2010 09:28 AM

Sorry for not being clear.

Open Suse detects the controller but does not have drivers due to atheros/attansisic not being prepared to release information about their cards.
Serveral other people are having similar problems with these controllers/cards with other manufacturers. Add to this my lack of knowledge as to how to compile code I am trying to find a RPM file Suse can insall.

Here is a copy of what I have done since your reply.

......................................................

linux-lme7:~ # lspci-vv
If 'lspci-vv' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
cnf lspci-vv
linux-lme7:~ # #lspci -vv
linux-lme7:~ # cnf lspci -vv

Program 'lspci' is present in package 'pciutils', which is installed on your system.

Absolute path to 'lspci' is '/sbin/lspci', so running it may require superuser privileges (eg. root).

linux-lme7:~ # /sbin/lspci -vv

Suse 11.2 is having an issue with Acer 5635Z notebook. The notebook is installed with the windows 7 premium. The processor used is t4300 Intel dual core. The problem is that the LAN controller cannot be specified with a correct rpm file. The LAN controller is being detected as the atheros ar8131. The appropriate drivers are not available there to give information. The only solution is to find out the correct Rpm file to be used.
