I'm using localnet (www.localnet.com), a local provider in my area. I knew they wouldnt haev any tech support to help me, and after confirming I decided to come here for help.
I have the account setup, but after a couple seconds it kicks me off.
any idea how to keep it from kicking me off?
also, if there is no help for me there, is there anywhere else with a saratoga springs of glens falls new york access # that supports linux for $9.99/month or less?
are you sure this issue is linux related? , btw linux support not cost you money if you come and ask here but you have to take your own initiative to provide usefull information regarding your problem
So your on dialup and you say you are connecting successfully, but it bumps you off?. Or is it just dialing connecting then disconnecting.
The former being a POP or line quality issue, the latter probably being an Authentication issue.
If you got your modem dialing and connecting to the server your half way their. You most likely have to setup the authentication protocol, CHAP, PAP, etc... and your username and PW to connect. You may also need the DNS server settings.
If your ISP has a forum try their first for the settings for manual connect. Also, E-mail support may be more inclined to help you with linux then phone support. Try that too.
If I use ppp-on, no matter what authentication I use, it connects me for awhile, but does not allow me to surf, and disconnects me rather suddenly -- although PPP does report that PAP authentication works...
I used pretty much the same info that I used on my manual installation of the isp on my windows PC...
